Many couples are seeking unique entertainment options for their reception that goes beyond your average photo booth (although this classic choice is still a huge crowd pleaser!). I’m sharing some creative alternative wedding entertainment ideas that will keep your guests talking long after you return from your honeymoon.
Live Painter
This is one of the more well known alternative entertainment options, but it’s well worth including on this list.
The best part about having a live painter to entertain your guests is that you have a personalized, custom piece of art as a souvenir afterward.
Live Painters often arrive early to build their base layers so that the guests are watching the most fun details – i.e. YOU – added throughout the evening. It’s nice to place them between the bar & dance floor for guests to stop in regularly and see how the artwork is progressing.
Aura Reader
One of the most unique requests I’ve ever received from a client was to source an aura reader for their wedding.
A slight twist on the photo booth, Carrie Moss brought an aura portrait yurt that not only provided a good, private spot for the readings, but added a wow-factor to the decor. (psst.. be sure to share this with your florist and add a few arrangements to tie in the yurt with the rest of your reception space)
This couple paid for two polaroids. One the guest could keep and the other was added to their guest book with a personalized note. Since these readings to require time, if it’s important to you that all your guests can participate, this is best for smaller weddings.
Craft Cocktails (or Shot Cart)
Signature cocktails are a wedding staple that have been reduced to the couple’s go-to bar drink with a cute sign.
To take it to the next level, work with a mixologist to create a custom cocktail – bonus points for serving in a unique glass – that will get guests excited to order your beverages.
If you have a real party crowd, consider a rolling shot-cart that can hype up the dance floor. Just make sure that your venue allows shots – and you’re providing safe transportation home – before saying “I Do” to a shot cart.
Late Night Food Action Station
Late Night Snacks are a must for couples who want to party all night, are huge foodies, or know your crowd will need to sop up some of the alcohol.
You could have a grab & go station or you could turn this into an entertainment opportunity by offering an action station.
Action Stations include a working chef who will make items right in front of guests to eat on-the-go. One of my donut-loving couples recently offered a late night action station from Donut Junkie and it was a hit!
For the savory folks, some of the other cool late night options I’ve seen have included ramen stations and even a personal pasta station.
