Capsule Wardrobe | Spring 2024

As we dive headfirst into a new year, I can’t help but reflect on the transformative journey that was 2023. If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve explored the highs and lows of capsule wardrobes – a seasonal living love affair that has truly changed the way I approach personal style.

Capsule wardrobes are like a curated playlist for your closet. They simplify decision-making, make mornings a breeze, and unlock a world of creativity within a limited space. And here I am, once again, ready to share the behind-the-scenes on my 2024 capsule wardrobe – the blueprint for a year that fits my personal style.

My 2024 Capsule Plan

Here it is, folks – the grand reveal of my 2024 capsule wardrobe plan. This year, I’m continuing the same “formula” I used with success: a 30-ish base wardrobe + 20-ish rotating seasonal pieces. Remember, while shoes are a part of my personal capsule, accessories (i.e. hats, belts, scarves, jewelry) and lounge/athletic gear (i.e. gym clothes, ratty sweatpants, summer kaftans) are not, so they don’t count toward my total or show up in my list. If you’re wondering how to build your own capsule, stick around, I’ve got a freebie you’re going to want to nab!

Base Items: The Wardrobe Heros

Let’s talk essentials, shall we? My base items are the backbone of my wardrobe. They are the thirty-two pieces that will be in my closest year round. For me these include:

Spring Items: New Year, New Vibe

If you’ve been around this past year, you know how I’ve experimented with (and loved) seasonal living. And when we consider seasonal living, spring is the time for planting new seeds after the reflection and healing time of winter. For me, this is looking like being even more true to what I’ve found to be my personal style. It’s (slowly) replacing items that are worn-out or no longer as aligned with my style for solid pieces that capture the essence of the style I’m curating for my wardrobe.

With that all being said, my spring 2024 wardrobe isn’t wildly different from 2023. I felt really solid about the options I had available to me and am looking forward to how my wishlist items might enhance my existing plan. Here’s the twenty piece I’ve chosen to add to my base to crate my spring capsule wardrobe.

  • Sleeveless Tops
    • Ivory Tank
    • Chambray Cami
  • Short Sleeve Tops
    • Pink “BRUNCH” Embroidered T-Shirt
    • Sage T-Shirt
    • Tan & White Striped Button Up
    • Collared Chambray Button Up
  • Long Sleeve Tops
    • Ivory Wrap Blouse
    • White Linen Tie-Front Blouse
    • Deep Sage Linen Blouse
  • Dresses & Skirts
    • Black T-Shirt Mini Dress
    • Navy Wrap Mini Dress
    • Tan & White Striped Midi Dress
    • White Denim Romper
    • White Linen Wrap Skirt
  • Pants & Shorts
    • White Jeans
    • Tan Linen Shorts
    • Brown Tencel Shorts
  • Shoes
    • Leather Slip-On Sandals
    • Tan Woven Platform Sandals
    • Black Suede Slingbacks

2024 Wardrobe Wishlist

I’ve found one of the easiest ways for me to practice conscious consumption is by creating a wishlist of items I want to add to my wardrobe. These act as a guide for what I “can” add to my closet throughout the year. Having this list helps me avoid impulse shopping and, honestly, gives me a feeling of accomplishment when I find that just right item I’ve been looking for.

In 2024 my wardrobe wishlist looks a little something like this:

Skylar Caitlin’s 2024 Wardrobe Wishlist
  • Tops
    • Ivory Silk Cami
      • replacement for my current cami which has seen better days
    • Collared Sweater
      • I pinned one on Pinterest and the vibes have just been vibing for me. It feels like a layered piece, but only one actual layer (important for the Texas heat)
  • Dresses & Skirts
    • Terracotta Linen Slip Dress (sewing project)
      • My black midi slip dress is a closet workhorse! I want to try and make it in another color
    • Denim Jumpsuit
      • I adore a jumpsuit and after hearing all 2023 how my white denim jumpsuit fits my style so well, I want to add a full-length denim jumpsuit to be base capsule
    • Patterned Jumpsuit
      • not this one, but I want to keep a patterned jumpsuit in mind especially one I could pull out for special events
  • Pants & Shorts
    • Black Trousers
      • replacement for my current black trousers that are a bit too snug
    • Ochre Corduroy Pants
      • I had a pair of corduroy pant I wore OUT when I was younger and never replaced because they were no long “cool”. I miss having these texturally interesting bottoms at the ready.
    • Levi’s Ribcage Medium Wash Straight Leg Jeans
      • I had straight leg jeans on my 2023 wishlist, but have refined exactly what I’m looking for. I’d prefer second-hand, but I’m truly the worst at actually getting myself out there and shopping
  • Outerwear
    • Reversible Tie-Front Vest (sewing project)
      • I didn’t think I was a vest girlie, but Sydney Graham has changed my mind with her Ruby Vest design.
  • Accessories (do not count toward my capsule)
    • Black Leather Belt
      • Bought this last year, but in the wrong size and I haven’t replaced
    • Blue Jewel Crawlers
      • another holdover from last year, I’ve been waiting on my flat piercing the heal completely before purchasing a new stud
    • Stackable Rings
      • I’ve never been a big ring gal, but I started wearing a Oura ring for my health tracking and now my hands look bare to me with just the chunky ring and my wedding bands.

A Note on Sewing Projects: 2024 is seeing me come out of of my comfort zone a lot. I’m trying new hobbies and projects to get in touch with the playful, beginner mindset I’ve let slip over the past few years. One goal I have is to sew a few pieces for my wardrobe, we’ll see how it goes!
